THE CAROLYN ANNE EDWARDS POOLE MEMORIAL STEM SCHOLARSHIP

Carolyn Anne Edwards Poole was born in January of 1948. She attended segregated schools throughout her elementary, middle, and high school years. She attended Dillard Elementary and was among the first students who attended the new Everglades Junior High School (Now William Dandy Middle School). There was a competition to write the school song that mommy and her friend won in middle school. Fun fact - The school song that is now sung is the song they wrote when the school first opened!

After middle school, she attended Dillard Comprehensive High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In her senior year in high school, she was the Editor of the Year Book. She was a proud alumni of the Dillard High graduating class of 1966. In the Fall of 1966, she attended the Junior College of Broward County (now Broward College) in
Davie, FL, and received her AA degree in 1968.

Carolyn was the first (1st) African American Payroll Processor for the Broward County School Board, where she worked for 35 years in the accounting department before retiring.

Carolyn believed in the value of higher education and was committed to ensuring her four (4) children and grandchildren had resources to pursue their educational goals.

This scholarship was created in her legacy.
